Andy Lee

Andy Lee was born in 1974 in Hong Kong and immigrated to the US, where he's lived and worked in Chicago, St. Louis, Atlanta, and Honolulu. Initially instructed in the arts by uncles and aunties who taught sumi painting techniques at Ming Lun School in Oahu's Chinatown. While in high-school and college the Buntin family educated Lee in the specifics of Zen brush painting. The meditative style consists of a p'o mo stage, "breaking clouds" where a splash is created and any image can be drawn from that splash. Lee's style demands a kind of mental awareness dependent on one's ability to refocus to the immediate moment, using paintings as his gauge. All other passions can eventually direct individuals to a meditative, enlightening path. One can be a Zen plumber, a Zen pilot... as long as their experience with their craft allows them to experience a greater wisdom. With this awareness, Lee literally surrenders himself to fate as drawings come out on paper with desired images popping out of smudges. Ultimately, Lee wants everyone to find comfort in their trade and their place in life. It was meant to be or meant not to be, based on your inner drive towards your individual passion. Andy Lee has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Marvel, DC Comics, LeBron James, THQ, Wizard, and Nike. Some of his credits include illustrations in Dragonball Z, Inuyasha Magazine, DC Comics Versus Trading Cards (Bronze Tiger, Sensei), Kindred of the East's Vampire the Masquerade, Ultimate Marvel Team-Ups (Spider Man vs the Master of Kung Fu), and much more.
